Venice Beach

Not Batman and I went to Venice Beach yesterday. First time for either of us. It was… it was like Times Square (where I spent too much of my life working and still do on occasion). All the same stores, all the same scams, all the same crappy restaurants. I still got some good pictures I think. I need to go back for more skateboarding shots.

#1 Motion

I didn’t really want to do the normal things you would see for motion. No cars, nothing with the wind. I saw these guys playing handball at Venice Beach. The ball is blurred, so is the first gentleman (a little anyway). Watching them play was crazy, I can’t believe how fast they were.VB 11

#17 Solitude

I have to be honest, it’s not my most favorite picture. However, I do think it conveys the idea of solitude. I have a huge fear of being stranded alone in the ocean (I know, I know, it’s never going to happen but still….). He was sitting on his surfboard waiting for a wave to come in (tiny waves or I would have shot some of them) and he just looked so alone.VB 10

#20 Street Portrait

A while ago, I joined the Kickstarter for LightBox Photography Cards. ¬†(Just as an aside, I’m not affiliated with them, not getting paid to put the link in there.) It’s a series of 52 cards with different things to shoot to give you some ideas or inspiration. I’m going to try to get through all of them this year, just not in order. Here’s my first one for card #20: Street Portrait. If you’re interested, here’s the link:¬†https://lightbox-photography-cards.myshopify.com/VB 12

So busy

Part of the reason I wanted to start this… blog? Is this a blog? is to force myself to take more pictures. Sometimes I take pictures but all the time I work. Took this today though. Little guy growing in front of my front steps. He may be tiny but he’s trying and that’s what matters.Plant 1.jpg

Christmas in Green Lake

I’m starting by cheating. This is supposed to be a blog about pictures I took in 2018. If you want to be technically correct (the best kind of correct), I took these in December of 2017. I didn’t edit them until 2018 though so I think I’m safe from the internet police. I spent the holiday with my delightful girlfriend who will remain un-named at the moment. We’ll see where this thing goes before she gets mentioned. For now, we’ll call her Not Batman. She’s gonna hate that.
